Recently, I had the great opportunity and pleasure to interview Malcolm McDowell on the set of Rob Zombie’s H2 (Halloween 2). From one fan to the rest of you – Rob Zombie is creating a truly incredible film that I absolutely cannot wait to see.

Below is a (summary) of the on-set interview. A huge thanks to Malcolm McDowell and CR Management for making this interview happen.
Jenny: Tell me a little about Rob Zombie (H2 Director/Writer).
Malcolm: Rob is an extraordinary talent and he’s written a great script.
Jenny: Is it as good as Halloween 2007?
Malcolm: It’s better. The story is more interesting and more character driven.
Jenny: Does Rob allow you to improvise at all? Or, are the scenes completely scripted?
Malcolm: There are times when I “ad lib.” Rob is great - he allows ideas to come up at once.
Jenny: Malcolm, we know you’re a writer as well. When you sit down to write a project – in your opinion, what is the hardest part of the process?
Malcolm: The first word!
Jenny: With regard to film versus theatre, do you enjoy one more than the other?
Malcolm: I enjoy both… Film is wonderful, in a way, because it’s so physical. Movement is very important. Every nuance means something.
Jenny: Are you having as much fun in your career now as you were when you first started out in the business?
Malcolm: Yeah, I would say I’m having as much fun now. It’s just different. There are no more “unknowns” anymore.
Jenny: Tell me what it was like performing your one-man-show, Never Apologize (a documentary and celebration of Lindsay Anderson’s life and work – www.NeverApologize.com).
Malcolm: Well, when you’re doing a one-man-show, it’s similar to being a stand-up comedian. It’s all about timing. You have to think on your feet. The trick is: keeping each performance different even though you’re telling the same stories. It’s a great feeling to be able to control an audience!
Jenny: I think it’s important to point out to people that while the film clearly has several, very touching moments, it’s also hysterically funny. This is not a stereotypical “documentary” – it’s very entertaining.
Malcolm: I thought it was very important to keep the mood light. If you keep it light, people will listen.
